Since we started JQProducts, we have been revolutionary in many ways and we want to keep that up.

This time we will change the concept of technical support, offering it worldwide, customized and free, for all JQ Products clients through the internet. Many times racers can get lost with so many setup sheets to try and so many settings to change.

Even if you find a setup sheet that makes your car good for a track, maybe that setup doesn’t fit your driving style. That’s why we offer the “Send us a video and we set your car up” service, to make setups fully customized to the driver requesting it. This service will be to help you set up your cars, and tune your engines.

WHO CAN USE IT?

Do you drive THECar or THE Engine? Then you are welcome. We will set THECar up for you and help you tune THE Engine if needed.

HOW TO USE IT FOR CAR’S SETUP?

Very simple, just film a video with two or three laps of YOU driving YOUR car, upload it to youtube or vimeo and then post it in this thread.

Then we need the setup sheet you are using in the video, including, clutch, tires, oils and brand, everything. Make sure you fill it well. You can upload it as PDF or JPG here on rctech, when you post your video.

HOW TO USE IT FOR ENGINE TUNING?

We need a video to tune your engine properly, so please, film a video following these steps:

1. Start your engine and let it warm up to about 100ºC. Best is to drive it for a few laps. Then let it idle for a five seconds.
2. Press full throttle till the engine reaches 50% of its rpm. Stop accelerating.
3. When the engine returns again to its normal idle accelerate again to the maximum rpm for 1 or 2 seconds. If you don’t accelerate completely, we won’t be able to help you right.
4. Then let the engine idle for 15 seconds, and punch the throttle all the way, and keep full throttle for 2 seconds.
5. Repeat the process one more time.

THEOils, JQProducts’ own line of Silicone Shock and Diff Oils have been out for a while already, but we haven’t actually officially released them. So here goes. The Shock Oils come in large 115ml bottles, and range from 250cps to 750cps. The Diff Oils come in 85ml bottles, and range from 1000cps to 12500cps.

Grass Roots Racing Series Nitro Round 1 @ Palm Desert R/C Raceway, Palm Desert, CA

February 11-12 was the first round of the popular Grass Roots Racing Series at Palm Desert R/C Raceway. I qualified 2nd and finished 3rd in the Expert buggy final. Justin Damarin won Sportsman, and Les Crenshaw finished 3rd in the 40+ buggy class, both running THECar.

OK after thinking all about 2 seconds to figure out a name for this blog post with out trying to sound like I am stealing all the words from THE man himself (JQ) I will begin my explanation of The Build. Firstly need to apologise for the poor quality pictures really wanted to get cracking on this build and every now and then I thought oh yeah need to take a picture. With the only camera being close by on the back of my HTC desire.

Opening up the box I see a huge pile of parts and I am thinking oh boy what have I got myself into now, the last car I actually built from scratch was my first electric car some odd 14 years ago, that’s the world of RTR’s for you. I have stripped and rebuilt numerous cars since but its been a while since I built one from scratch.

I am never one for following instructions as they always seem to obstruct me, however on this occasion I must say I did follow them step by step and they are very easy to follow comparing them to what I think a manual should be like having never properly read many, moving on I did from time to time refer to the little “The Advice” snippets just to check I had done it the preferred way. So following the instructions I started off with the suspension. Very nicely went together I didn’t follow the exact advice in this section and opted to go for my own shock oils viscosity. JQ recommended 450 front 500 rear I opted for 450 front 550 rear.

Its as if by magic there all built as you will see later on the stages of me taking pictures got further and further apart this is one hell of a kit and such fun to build, shocks are all done no leaks no scuffs on to the next part.

Building the diffs again very simple instructions went together like a breeze decided to ignore viscosity again JQ recommended  from front to back 7000, 5000, 3000 I went 7,5,2 its worth mentioning at this point I am not deliberately opting to go against what it says in the instructions. JQ has built the car in my understanding to be one if not the most adjustable cars there is on the market. Its designed to fit your needs and you work with what works best for you, I wonder if JQ reads that and sends me some free oils

At this point I am motoring along thinking how long will it take to build the rest of the car not paying much attention to screwing in the screws when the screwdriver slipped and gave me a nice little wake up call.

No tears no sweat but a small amount of blood never take your eye of the job you have been warned, on with the build front end went together faster than I expected even though I suffered an injury I love all the orange bits they really do make you just sit there and appreciate what you are building. Linkages tie rods what ever you call them in the instructions JQ puts down the distance between them precisely for all of them and I mean precise 27.5mm that’s precision for you.

Everything seems to be well thought out on this buggy and although I didn’t take a picture as you screw down the front and back end to the chassis you have little rubber seals which sit around where the gear box sits. You cant see it much in the picture below but the servo saver arms is very close to the front drive cup.

When I brought the kit I had to go all out and went for alley rear hubs in orange as you do and it really does finish the back of the car along with the sweet looking orange drive shafts after all the back has to look the best because that’s what everyone will see. Before you go comment crazy there’s nothing wrong with confidence :p

So by the magic of the internet 12 hours of build over 2 days have turned into a 5 minute read and all that’s left to finish now is the radio tray, pop and engine in, servos & wheels OK said like that it actually sounds like a lot so I did end up finishing the radio tray of

Now we have only the engine, servos & wheels that sounds a little better oh and fuel tank, the only thing which makes me a little worried is how far on the edge the front drive shafts sit hopefully they wont pop out with a bad knock of jump the back seem OK. I did fit the original front arms on instead of the update ones ill put them on after I have given the car a beating as it owes me money lol. looking around on the internet i found a few people which say they have had no problems with the drive shafts popping out, stay tuned for the update.

The car is now finished and sitting pretty with a new alpha s852 (gold top) engine, answer rc red aluminium wheel nut caps and 2 1256 Savox servos was opting for a 1258 on the steering but our order from suppliers has not turned up yet so anxious to get it going i put 2 savox 1256′s in instead.

Graham will use HB CR8/D8 chassis, HB tyres, Optifuel Race Fuel, HB Servos, HPI Chargers

Graham has been in the top 5 pretty much at every national and has basically dominated the UK Midlands throughout the winter, winning almost every meeting he turns up to. Graham has great confidence in the HB brand and is very excited about the CR8 after initial testing over the winter months.

Graham will lead our UK team and represent HB in select European meetings.

For many years Yannick has been at the very top of the European and World 1/8th nitro scene. A consummate professional, his dedication to performance and promotion is exactly what Team Associated and CML have been looking for as they look to build on the success of the new RC8.2 in France and into further International markets.

In addition to driving the RC8.2, Yannick will also be working with CML to further drive sales of Team Associated product through a new business venture, CML France. Since being granted distribution rights for France alongside their established UK market, CML have been steadily building a customer base within France and will now be able to provide dealers with a more attractive one-to-one contact through Yannick both trackside, in-store and online.

Working alongside our staff here in the UK, CML France headed by Yannick, will be looking to add drivers to the current French domestic line up to further expand Team Associated product awareness in all categories and events, ranging from the RC8.2 and 8.2e in 1/8th through to B4.1, B44.1, SC10 in 1/10th and TC6.1 in the on-road class. The vast range of Team Associated products will be fully and comprehensively supported by Yannick through the new CML France network.

The 8 Times BRCA National Champion is pleased to announce he is back in the saddle. Not only is David fired up for the 2012 season and excited about racing competitively again but his pit man and proud father ‘Stan The Man’ is back out of retirement and will be riding shot gun all the way. It is great to see both David and his dad attending the races again. CML and Team Associated are very proud to have them on-board but It doesn’t stop there…

David has also made the switch to Reedy Engines, bringing with him a vast amount of knowledge in the engine department. David is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to engines and for him to make the leap shows just how much confidence he has in the products. David has already been racking up the wins and podium finishes. He’s off to a flying start.

Not only is David a fantastic ambassador for the products he races but his knowledge will run deep throughout the team to help improve everybody’s overall performance. He also brings with him a different approach to set-up and engine tuning for the club racers and this has already made a difference. Knowing that David likes a less aggressive car to drive has promoted many of the team drivers to adopt the same approach. Now they are faster and smoother with a car that’s easier to drive and a engine set-up that’s puuurrrrr-fect. Watch out for the less aggressive set-up sheets that will be posted on CML’s web site. It gives another angle to work on and is already proving to be a hit at the local clubs.

David claims that,

I like to drive a car thats easy to drive and know that most people can pick my car up and drive it. Club drivers like to push 110% and attack a track and expect the car to do things that the Pro drivers don’t. Many of the Pro’s have a set-up that’s aggressive and fast but very hard to drive. Their cars have raw speed but the drivers drive at 90%. A hard car to drive means more mistakes especially in longer finals. I sit in the middle and need a car thats easy to drive. My less aggressive set-ups are filtering throughout the team already and everybody that drives my car loves it and says how easy it is. This is important for me and the club guys to have a car thats easy to drive.
